स्थपति नृत्यम्
An architect's dance
The Tala is a grid. The Rangamancha is a site plan. The body in space is a built form: load, tension, balance, rhythm.
The Practice
A building stands because of its geometry.
A dancer moves because of hers.
Both are acts of design. Both begin with the body understanding space.
If you've ever stood inside a beautifully designed space and felt something shift in you, that's the same thing a dancer does to an audience.
The three levels
Beginner
New to Bharatanatyam. We begin with the body: posture, weight and the first Adavus.
Intermediate
You know the basic Adavus. We deepen expression, rhythm and compositional form.
Advanced
Varnam, Padam and complex Jati. For students building toward or beyond their Margam.
